IT WAS A PLEASURE TAKING PART IN THE
Webinar “Entdecken Sie… Kunst und Demenz”
Recently, I had the opportunity to take part in an inspiring online webinar hosted by the City of Vienna and moderated by Katharina Meißner-Schöller. The session was part of the “Entdecken Sie…” series, which explores innovative approaches at the intersection of science, society, and practice.
The webinar focused on a particularly powerful topic: how art can support the care and well-being of people living with dementia. Bringing together scientific insights and creative perspectives, the session offered a compelling look at how interdisciplinary approaches can open up new possibilities in care and therapy.
A New Perspective on Dementia Care
One of the central takeaways from the webinar was the role of art as more than just a form of expression—it can act as a bridge.
Through artistic engagement, individuals with dementia are able to reconnect with emotions, memories, and communication in ways that traditional methods may not always achieve.
The speakers highlighted how creative practices—whether visual arts, music, or participatory activities—can foster dignity, connection, and quality of life. These approaches are not only meaningful for patients, but also for caregivers and professionals working in the field.

The Value of Interdisciplinary Thinking
What made this webinar particularly engaging was its combination of academic research and practical application. The session demonstrated how collaboration between scientists, artists, and healthcare professionals can lead to innovative solutions that are both evidence-based and deeply human-centered.
It also became clear that addressing complex societal challenges, such as dementia, requires moving beyond traditional boundaries and embracing new, creative perspectives.
The Power of Digital Learning Formats
As an online event, the webinar also showcased the strengths of digital formats. Webinars enable participants from diverse backgrounds and locations to come together, exchange ideas, and engage in meaningful discussions in real time.
The moderated discussion ensured a structured yet interactive experience, allowing participants to contribute questions and reflections throughout the session.
Final Thoughts
Participating in this webinar was both insightful and inspiring. It reinforced the importance of creativity in fields where we might not immediately expect it—and highlighted how innovative thinking can improve real-world practices.
Events like this remind us that meaningful change often happens at the intersection of disciplines. Exploring these connections is not just valuable—it’s essential.
